FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When should I start shopping for my ring(s)?
Most people prefer to customize their rings 2-3 months in advance, to ensure they arrive in plenty of time. However, if your proposal plans or your wedding are sooner than that, we also have options here in stock that you can take home today!
Do you take walk-ins?
Yes, you are welcome to view our selection anytime! Our regular business hours are Monday-Friday 9AM-5PM, Saturday 9AM-3PM.
Do you take appointments?
Yes, if you’d prefer to set up a time to peruse engagement rings or wedding bands, you can message us here. This option is good for those who already have an idea of what they are looking for and can send us details of what they’d like to see.
We also prefer appointments for designing custom jewelry.
How many people should I bring to look at engagement rings?
This decision is up to you, but we recommend keeping it small, preferably just one other person, as too many opinions can easily become overwhelming. Whoever accompanies you should be someone whose opinion you respect, someone who understands the preferences of you or your soon-to-be fiancé.
How long does engagement or wedding ring shopping take?
Most of our clients spend around 45 minutes to 1 ½ hours going through ring options in store. Some shorten that time by pre-shopping our website and compiling a short list of styes they’re interested in viewing.
What should my budget be for an engagement ring?
There’s no right or wrong answer to this question. The average engagement ring price is currently around $5,000, and traditionally, the recommendation is to spend 2 months’ salary.
Ultimately, the choice is yours. We carry engagement rings from $500 to $50,000. Your options are endless!
Do you offer financing?
We offer 6- to 12-month interest-free options through Synchrony Financing for approved customers. You can apply here. We also offer interest-free in-store layaway for 6 months – an option we’ve offered since 1962.
What if I don’t know my soon-to-be fiancé’s finger size?
That’s OK! There are a few different ways to go about getting it. You can work with a friend or family member to casually get them to try on rings and see what fits best. You could also bring them into the jewelry store and get their finger sized (probably the best option, as long as you’re OK with ruining that part of the surprise!). The third option is to get the ring & present it first, then have them bring it in afterwards to have the ring re-sized. This option works very well, provided they do not need an unusually small or large size.
What kind of protection plan or warranty service do you offer?
We provide you with a free appraisal of value with your engagement ring purchase, as well as a free quote from Jewelers Mutual, a 100-year-old Wisconsin-based insurance company that solely insures jewelry. They provide full coverage for loss & theft, as well as repairs.
Jewelers Mutual is not affiliated with Mark Jewellers; however, we love the service they provide for our customers, and for us! Their protection services will also travel with you, so if you move away from the area and find a new hometown jeweler, Jewelers Mutual will still cover your jewelry & work with the jeweler of your choice. See more about the company here.
Do you buy gold, used engagement rings, other jewelry?
Yes, we buy gold including dental gold fillings, silver, platinum, and natural diamonds. We do not buy on the spot; we have you leave the pieces for us to test and weigh up, then we will contact you with an offer.
Do you appraise jewelry?
We offer line listings (e.g. for splitting an estate equally in value), or insurance appraisals (e.g. to confirm you have enough insurance coverage to replace or repair your items). Contact us to discuss which option fits your needs.
Do you do jewelry alterations in-house?
Yes, we do. We have a goldsmith repair shop on site, which means we can resize rings, set diamonds and gemstones, and do other jewelry alterations right here in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
How much does ring resizing cost?
Price will vary based on metal type, width, & number of gemstones in the ring, as well as how far up or down we are sizing. Bring your ring in for a free quote!
How long do jewelry repairs & custom orders take?
Jewelry repairs which can be done in our shop generally take 2-3 weeks to complete. For specialized work which requires us to send the pieces to our master goldsmith, expect 3-4 weeks to complete.
Specially ordered items, including engagement rings, generally take 3-4 weeks to arrive from the manufacturer – most have expedited shipping available if your item is needed sooner.
Fully custom jewelry designed with our CAD/CAM system generally takes 6-8 weeks, but can vary depending on the number of revisions requested.
Do you offer jewelry cleaning & is there a charge?
We offer free jewelry cleaning in our ultrasonic machine or with our silver tarnish remover. This service can usually be completed in just a few minutes; however, many clients like to drop their jewelry off to soak for a few hours while they run errands or grab lunch! Consider it like giving your ring a spa day. For a deep clean, including polishing and refinishing by our goldsmith, there is a charge. Contact us for a price quote.
Do I need an appointment to bring in repairs or to sell gold?
Walk-ins are always welcome! If you’d like to work with a particular sales associate or would like us to have something prepared for you ahead of time, you can set up an appointment here. Otherwise, stop in anytime during our regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9-5, Saturday 9-3.
